If you haven’t already, meet Sport A’bout, a brand that has been in the fitness industry in Trinidad and Tobago since 1991 through its retail space in Long Circular Mall. “We have been in the fitness industry since 1991. Founded by an amazing man, my Dad, the legacy and strength of Sport A’bout continues today. Inspiring woman to feel sexy, stylish and confident while they workout with some of the best Activewear from Brazil,” says Louann Fakoory, Managing Director of Sport A’bout.

Tucked away on Level Three of Long Circular Mall in St. James, Sport A’Bout is fully-equipped when it comes to fitness, active, leisure and swimwear for both ladies and gentlemen. You can indulge in a vast array of colours, cuts, shapes and sizes making it a clear favourite when it comes to gearing up for whatever your activity might be. Aerobics. Zumba. Yoga. Hiking. Weight training. You name it. Even going out.
Louann tells us about when she took over the business full-time. “After my Dad passed away in 2013, I took over juggling both Sport A’bout and my own business until 2015 when I decided to give up my personal business to focus solely on Sport A’bout.”

As for the name, Louann says, “Back in the day there was term that was used “Look how she is sporting about’ and my Dad thought it was the perfect name for an Activewear store catering towards fashionable ladies that can go from gym to street.” And that is how the name was born and has been a familiar sight in Long Circular Mall for years. “We saw the evolution of conscience fitness happening in Trinidad with more people running the Savannah, hiking and going to small exercises classes. With that, in 1991, the business was founded by my Dad and our first location was at Valpark Shopping Center. In 1993, we moved to Long Circular Mall and have been there since.”

Louann continues “At that time the majority of the business was mostly gym equipment and trendy street clothes. We had a small selection of tights that were selling really well and so we started to convert half the store to Activewear sourcing our products mainly from the USA (at that time). By around 2000, we were receiving a lot of positive feedback on our clothing lines and decided to sell off the gym equipment and focus on the Activewear. Then in 2005 we became a full Activewear store when we introduced Fitness Fashion to the island with our Exclusive Brazilian Line, Milan.”

Louann says the Milan line is definitely a milestone along the Sport A’Bout journey. “Many people from both Trinidad and Tobago, up the islands and a few international, know our Brand and have been dedicated Milan fanatics and refuse to purchase anything less as it is a lifetime purchase.” She also admits that listening to her customers over the years and understanding that every person has different tastes and styles has allowed her to focus on always offering a variety of styles and sizes so every customer leaves happy.
Having been in business for quite some time, we asked Louann for any advice for those out there who may want to begin their journey as an entrepreneur and her response was simple. “Start small and spend wisely.”
