Meet Pure Lily Organics. A self-care brand that focuses on natural and organic skin-care products. The brand is owned by Aliyah Greene who believes that self-care is one of the most essential parts of your daily life. “You can’t pour from an empty cup! We are dedicated to sharing our love for creating natural bath and body products. We aim at meeting all your self-care needs in the most delicate and organic way possible. We love handmade products that are created with love, care and attention without sacrificing the luxurious feeling we all love and want when we purchase a product with ourselves in mind.”
When asked about the name of her brand, Aliyah says, “The name of my brand comes from my spiritual beliefs. I have always been attracted to the strength and the tenacity of the Water Lily and I feel that it is a great representative of who I am and the experiences I have been through in life. This is the quote that inspires me the most – ‘The great water lily. The little tiny seed, born way down in the bottom of a miry, mucky pond. And it winds its way up through the darkness, through all the mud and all the scum. And becomes the brightest thing that you ever looked into the face of, with radiance like the sunshine.’ The insertion of the word “pure”, represents the transparency with which I wish to market my brand. Every ingredient, whether natural or organic is listed in plain English so that customers have no questions about what they are purchasing.”
Aliyah was inspired to start the business when she received a handmade product from a co-worker and thought that she could do that too. “I started researching and digging into creating natural skincare products and I thought that this may help me with my skin problems. I did a course in the creation of products and I improved on the things I learnt. I started to work on my skincare and natural products and that helped me a lot. Also, I am a creative at heart, so creating things come naturally to me and I decided to share what I learnt and experienced through involving natural products in my skincare routine with others.”
Aliyah admits that she is still at the baby stages of her business. “I am naturally very hard on myself. Knowing nothing about business, accounting and marketing has posed many challenges. Also, I had to put a pause on the production of products for some very personal reasons so now that I am at a better place, I am now rebuilding my brand and ready to push forward. I have some projects in the making and I am excited for those as well. I have had some small wins. I would say the thing that I am most proud of is having a brand that I love and products that I myself use.”
When it comes to lessons learnt as an entrepreneur so far, Aliyah says there have been many. “The main lesson I would say is to move at your own pace. No one knows yourself, your brand and your vision better than you. Once you get others involved at the early stages who do not share the same vision as you, you can become overwhelmed and stressed. If you are starting with a team, make sure you are on the same page. Also, taking a pause to find the passion you started with, is not called failure. At the end of the day, you want to be happy doing what that you love and are deeply passionate about.”
And does Aliyah have any advice for the budding entrepreneur out there? She does. “To the new entrepreneur, I would advise anyone to do your research and educate yourself. We do not live in a society where people freely give advice to those who are just starting out. People do not give out their secrets so if possible, find a mentor and start your accounting from the get-go. Carefully plan out your strategies and launch wisely. This will save you a lot of stress in the long run.”
Aliyah says what makes Pure Lily unique is that the brand is not just about selling products but also about being huge self-care advocates. “Many times, we feel guilty for purchasing something just because we want to. Feeling good about and caring for ourselves is very important because we cannot give people what we don’t possess ourselves; whether it be love, care or even patience. We are so caught up with surviving through each week that we do not take time to pause and give ourselves five mins. This aspect of our business is what we strive to promote with every social media post.”
