A Fusion of Success

Meet CTM Contemporary Design. A brand that’s all about the Creative Fusion of Wood and Epoxy Resin.

If you’re a fan of unique and one-of-a-kind items, then you’ll want to keep an eye on CTM Contemporary Design. This Trinidad and Tobago-based business creates stunning pieces by combining wood and epoxy resin, resulting in one-of-a-kind pieces that are sure to make a statement in any space.

The CTM in the business name originally stood for Concrete Treatment Material, with a focus on decorative concrete for floors and countertops using epoxy resin. However, as the founder began working with epoxy, he found himself drawn towards the creative possibilities that this material presented. Thus, CTM Contemporary Design was born.

Juggling a full-time business can be challenging, especially when it’s just one person doing the majority of the work. While CTM Contemporary Design does have support from the founder’s fiancé, brothers, and a friend / mentor  within the local woodworking industry, it’s still a lot of work to manage all aspects of the business from designing and prototyping to dealing with customers and creating the final products.

So what inspired the founder to start this business? His love for working with his hands and a chance encounter with a YouTube video about epoxy countertops. This sparked months of research and experimentation that led him to where he is today.

One of the biggest milestones for CTM Contemporary Design has been building a customer base who loves their unique products. Starting from scratch and teaching himself everything about resin work was a daunting task, but the result has been worth it. Another milestone has been the opportunity to work with local celebrities, showcasing the appeal of their products.

As an entrepreneur, the founder has learned the importance of having a strong support system. Starting and growing a business can be a rollercoaster ride, and having people around who believe in you and your vision can make all the difference.

For those considering embarking on their own entrepreneurial journey, the founder advises finding something you love doing because running a business means putting in long hours and a lot of hard work. But when you’re passionate about what you’re doing, it can make all the difference in building a successful brand.

Speaking of brands, what’s the difference between a business and a brand? For CTM Contemporary Design, a brand is the byproduct of a business. It’s a product that people want to associate with because of its quality and unique features. And with their innovative approach to combining wood and epoxy resin, CTM Contemporary Design is well on their way to building a brand that stands out in a crowded marketplace.
