In Drayton Street’s basement, Beauty Basement was born, a name suggested by the founder’s mom, capturing the essence of the space. Balancing entrepreneur and part-time student roles, the founder overcame time management challenges to build a thriving business inspired by a love for beauty since age 15.

Starting with Colleen’s Makeup Designs on Facebook, the founder expanded into the beauty industry, facing challenges with determination. Milestones include opening the first Beauty Basement, becoming a Young Nails supplier, and establishing a nail supply store and a classroom on Drayton Street.

The founder learned that business rarely goes as planned, emphasizing the importance of a strong mindset and calculated risk-taking. Creativity, originality, and valuing customers are crucial, turning challenges into opportunities for growth.

Encouraging passion over money, especially for aspiring nail technicians, the founder advises thinking outside the box and embracing growth through hiring staff. Flexibility and diversification in business pursuits are key.

A brand, according to the founder, is like a toolkit defining a business with colors, tones, style, wording, and aesthetics. While a business produces goods or services, a brand represents it, shaping its public image.

The founder stresses the importance of collective support and collaboration in the local brand community. Engaging with the community through events like the Madam Glam expo and hosting pop-up shops shows commitment to local entrepreneurs and community engagement.
