The Academy of Mindful Living

The Academy of Mindful Living (AoML) embodies a philosophy centered on mindfulness as a transformative force for individuals across various walks of life. Guided by a mission to foster self-awareness, resilience, and personal growth, AoML offers resources that range from workshops and eBooks to personalized coaching sessions. Its founder is deeply committed to building a nurturing environment for personal and professional development, believing that everyone can benefit from mindfulness in navigating life’s challenges. Through AoML, a community of mindful, self-aware individuals is encouraged to transcend cognitive limitations, manage stress, build meaningful relationships, and contribute positively within their professional circles and communities. With a focus on self-discovery and collective well-being, AoML strives to help people realize their full potential, with the hope of contributing to a more compassionate and resilient society.

The name “Academy of Mindful Living” was chosen with intention. “Academy” reflects the founder’s vision of creating a place for structured learning and growth, while “Mindful Living” underscores the importance of being present and fully engaged in everyday life. This combination signifies a space dedicated to holistic well-being, rooted in mindfulness—a practice the founder credits with her own healing and growth. In developing AoML, she sought to create a platform where mindfulness principles could be explored and applied, helping others to cultivate self-awareness, live authentically, and make a meaningful impact on their communities. Ultimately, the Academy represents her commitment to fostering compassion and authenticity through mindfulness, with the hope of inspiring a legacy of mindful individuals who can positively shape the world around them.

The path to establishing AoML was not without its challenges. After starting AoML in 2021 while working full-time, the founder felt the difficulty of balancing her professional life with the Academy’s demands. Though fulfilling, it became evident that AoML required more time and energy than her schedule allowed. This realization, coupled with a desire to live in alignment with her values, ultimately led her to leave her full-time job in June 2024 to fully dedicate herself to AoML. By doing so, she aims to give the Academy the attention it deserves, allowing her to build the community she envisions.

The founder’s inspiration for AoML is rooted in her own experiences of overcoming trauma and unnecessary suffering. Mindfulness became a powerful tool in her journey toward personal healing, enhancing her well-being and fostering a growth-oriented mindset. With plans to refocus AoML toward Human-Centered Mindful Leadership Development in 2025, she seeks to empower a new generation of leaders who prioritize self-awareness, compassion, humility, and service. Through coaching and consulting, she aspires to inspire leaders who lead with empathy and foster an environment where individuals can thrive. By embracing this new direction, AoML hopes to cultivate a culture of mindful leadership that promotes sustainable success and strengthens organizational resilience.

In its relatively short journey, AoML has achieved significant milestones. One notable accomplishment is the launch of “Mindfulness Unlocked – Breaking the Cycle of Chronic Stress and Burnout Through Mindfulness,” a course aimed at professional millennials. This initiative represents AoML’s commitment to addressing modern workplace challenges through practical mindfulness techniques. Additionally, AoML is currently developing “5 To Thrive – Leadership by Design,” a signature program that promotes self-awareness, trauma-informed leadership, and legacy building. This program seeks to help leaders cultivate a human-centered approach, focusing on values that enrich both personal and professional lives.

One of the most impactful lessons the founder has learned as an entrepreneur is the value of failure. She initially viewed failure as something to avoid, but over time, she came to see it as a crucial part of the growth process. Each setback presented a valuable opportunity to learn and evolve, helping her understand that failure is not an end but a stepping stone to success. This lesson has become a core aspect of her entrepreneurial philosophy and informs her approach to challenges.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, she emphasizes the importance of cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset. Resilience and grit are essential, and she encourages individuals to start with self-awareness, identifying both their strengths and areas for improvement. Surrounding oneself with a supportive network and seeking mentorship can provide guidance, while consistent learning can fuel growth. She also highlights the importance of mindfulness as a tool for building clarity and resilience, reminding entrepreneurs that setbacks are part of the journey toward their goals. By nurturing curiosity and staying focused on their vision, aspiring entrepreneurs can navigate the ups and downs of building a business.

In her view, a brand transcends logos or marketing—it embodies the values, purpose, and essence of an organization or individual. A brand is the promise made to a community and the connection formed with it. It reflects who they are, what they stand for, and the positive impact they aim to make. By creating an authentic brand, AoML seeks to communicate its mission of mindful living and leadership development in a way that resonates with people on a deeper level, building trust and loyalty.

To her, the distinction between a business and a brand is significant. A business delivers products or services to generate profit, focusing on the logistics and management that keep it operational. A brand, on the other hand, is about the emotional connection and shared values that create loyalty. It tells a unique story and builds a sense of community, establishing an identity that people feel connected to. This difference is integral to the AoML philosophy, as the Academy strives to build more than a business—it aims to create a movement toward mindful living and compassionate leadership.

Reflecting on the local brand community in Trinidad and Tobago, she observes a flourishing of new, vibrant brands. The growth of this community is encouraging, yet challenges persist. Many local brands face limited support and exposure, which can restrict their potential. She hopes to see more resources allocated toward nurturing these emerging brands, giving them greater opportunities to thrive and contribute to the local economy. For AoML, supporting the local brand community is part of a broader vision of creating meaningful change—one that not only enhances individual lives but also strengthens the fabric of society.
