Kyle’s Passion

In Trinidad and Tobago, *This Is It* is not just a business—it’s an artistic venture that seeks to infuse color, vibrancy, and creativity into the world of hair. Dedicated to those who embrace artistic expression, *This Is It* goes beyond traditional hair services by fostering a deep connection with clients. It’s a space where clients’ desires are heard, the creative process is trusted, and confidence is built through the use of premium, professional products such as L’Oréal Paris, Tec Italy, Redken, and many other exceptional brands. The mission is simple: to bring the salon experience directly to clients or offer them a retreat where they can escape the outside world and immerse themselves in the warm, welcoming ambiance of *This Is It*.

The story behind the name is rooted in a memory from childhood. The owner recalls watching *A Bug’s Life* as a young child, where Flick, the main character, shouted “This is it!” as he introduced his circus to the village. The phrase stuck with him, echoing throughout various movies and conversations. Over time, he realized that this phrase resonated deeply with him, and he became determined to popularize it. However, the phrase wasn’t just a catchy slogan—it carried deeper meaning. Flick’s proclamation was one of love, hope, and acceptance, even when his colony didn’t initially accept him. This message of unwavering belief in oneself and the power of community served as a guiding light on his own personal journey, reminding him of the beauty in embracing both the highs and lows of life.

Though *This Is It* is at the heart of his entrepreneurial pursuits, it is not his only passion. He is also a choreographer, using dance as a hidden language to connect with himself. Currently, he is involved in a project with the University of the West Indies, under the choreography of Dr. Deboleena Paul. Balancing these pursuits may seem challenging, but he believes that when you love something, you make time for it. For him, it’s about treating everything he loves with the respect it deserves, knowing that passion fuels perseverance.

The inspiration behind his venture is deeply personal. It began during his mother’s battle with cancer, when he was inspired to learn the craft of hair extensions. A Venezuelan hairstylist took him under her wing, teaching him the intricate art of microlink hair extensions. From that moment, he discovered that he had a special gift for hair, as his mother still enjoys beautiful hair to this day—thanks to his careful touch. Honoring this gift has become a core part of his mission: to positively impact the lives of others by transforming their hair and, in turn, enhancing their confidence.

The milestones in his life are not measured by mere achievements, but by a profound spiritual connection that has sustained him. He acknowledges the many challenges and battles he has faced as a human on Earth, but the most significant accomplishment has been cultivating a deep spiritual connection that has kept him grounded, especially during his darkest times. Life’s most difficult moments, he believes, are the ones that truly shape and strengthen us.

For him, the biggest lesson in entrepreneurship has been the importance of patience and perspective. He has learned that everything takes time to blossom, and stressing over things outside of his control only holds him back. In the grand scheme of life, the obstacles we face are part of the process of growth and evolution.

His advice to future entrepreneurs is simple but powerful: live honestly and with good intentions. He stresses that making money should not come at the expense of one’s integrity. Entrepreneurship is about building something meaningful, not only for oneself but also for the people who have supported the journey along the way.

To him, a brand is more than just a logo or a product—it’s about creating sentimental experiences for people through creative execution. While a business may sell products and services, a brand captures both individuality and inclusivity, connecting with people on a deeper level.

Reflecting on the local brand community in Trinidad and Tobago, he feels a deep sense of admiration. Local entrepreneurs are putting their best foot forward, not only to make their customers happy but also to showcase their unique, signature creative ideas. It’s a vibrant and inspiring space where innovation and authenticity thrive.

Although he has yet to participate in local markets or host pop-ups, he remains hopeful for the future. One day, he hopes to share his creative vision with the wider community, further solidifying his place in the ever-evolving landscape of Trinidad and Tobago’s thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.
