JUBI Art Studio is more than just a space for artistic creation – it is a vibrant haven where creativity and self-expression come to life. Founded with a deep passion for storytelling through illustration, the studio specialises in producing captivating artwork that inspires, uplifts and spreads joy. Each piece is a fusion of hand-drawn elements and digital media, resulting in original illustrations that find their way into print publications and personal collections. At the heart of JUBI Art Studio is a dedication to crafting art that resonates, whether through thoughtfully designed greeting cards or immersive colouring books.

The creative journey of JUBI Art Studio has led to the production of a variety of projects, each with its own unique charm. The studio has brought to life “Trini” themed Christmas cards that celebrate local culture, football-inspired Valentine’s Day cards and most notably, an adult colouring book titled Keep Going! Motivational Quotes Colouring Book. This latest project is a heartfelt endeavour designed to encourage relaxation and positivity, offering users a therapeutic escape through art. Though initially created for adults, the book is also suitable for children and is currently available on Amazon, with plans for it to be stocked in local bookstores soon.

The name JUBI carries a special significance, rooted in the founder’s own name – Jubilee. More than just a personal touch, the name embodies the essence of joyful celebration, a sentiment that is infused into every creation produced by the studio. Each illustration, every carefully crafted detail, is a reflection of the artist’s personality, style and boundless creativity. The ultimate goal is to evoke happiness and to leave a lasting impression on those who engage with the art.

Since December 2024, JUBI Art Studio has been a full-time pursuit. The journey to becoming a full-time creative entrepreneur, however, was not without its challenges. The idea for the colouring book was sparked by a conversation with the artist’s mother, who had observed that many adult colouring books on the market lacked variety and tended to feature overly intricate designs. Inspired to create something different – something that was not only enjoyable but also carried a positive message – the artist set out to design a book that anyone could use to unwind, regardless of artistic ability. With a background in psychology and a deep understanding of mental health, there was an added motivation to craft a resource that could help individuals cope with stress, anxiety and depression.

The creative process began in October, just as the artist was recovering from eye surgery. The road to completion was not easy – spending long hours behind a screen while healing made the drawing process more difficult. Yet, perseverance and a commitment to the project saw it through. The motivational quotes featured throughout the book, such as “Don’t give up,” “Good things take time,” and “The world needs what you have to offer,” became more than just words on a page – they were personal affirmations that carried the artist through the journey.

While the initial plan had been to release the colouring book in time for Christmas, the realities of publishing meant that the project required more time. Not wanting to miss the festive season entirely, the artist pivoted and created a collection of Trini themed Christmas cards instead. This marked the beginning of JUBI Art Studio as a brand, with illustrations featuring local Christmas elements such as a parang group, steel pan ornaments adorning a Christmas tree, and a palm tree decorated for the holidays. To share these creations with a wider audience, social media pages were launched on Instagram and TikTok, providing a platform to showcase and sell the artwork. What started as a passion project soon grew into a brand with a clear vision: to bring joy to others through illustration.

One of the most significant milestones to date has been the publication of Keep Going! Motivational Quotes Colouring Book and its availability on Amazon. This achievement marked a personal and professional breakthrough, made possible with the support of family, friends and the guidance of Idle Sky Publishing. The process of turning an idea into a published book was a learning experience filled with challenges and triumphs and the feedback received has been overwhelmingly positive.

As an entrepreneur, the biggest lesson learned so far has been the importance of adaptability and resilience. Building a brand involves continuous trial and error, from understanding customer preferences to navigating the ever-changing landscape of social media. Mistakes are inevitable, but each one is an opportunity to learn, grow, and refine the approach. Developing an online presence, engaging with audiences, and understanding what resonates with them have all been key aspects of the journey.

For those considering the path of entrepreneurship, the most valuable piece of advice is simple: start. There will never be a moment of feeling completely prepared, but taking the first step is what matters most. Research, planning and resourcefulness will help lay the foundation, but action is what brings ideas to life. Showcasing work is also crucial, and social media serves as a powerful tool for visibility and connection.

In reflecting on the nature of branding, the distinction between a business and a brand becomes clear. While a business is the product or service offered, a brand is the perception and emotional connection it creates. A brand is built on identity, reputation, and the experience it provides. For JUBI Art Studio, the art itself is the business, but the creativity, quality, and personal touch behind each piece define the brand.

Trinidad and Tobago’s local brand community is an inspiring ecosystem of creativity and innovation. The diversity of brands, events and markets showcasing local products speaks to the rich cultural fabric of the nation. Social media has played a significant role in strengthening this community, providing a platform for brands to engage with their audiences and support each other’s growth. The collaborative and celebratory spirit within the local creative industry is a testament to the talent and passion that exists in the country.

Although JUBI Art Studio has yet to participate in local markets or pop-up events, the future holds endless possibilities. With plans to have Keep Going! Motivational Quotes Colouring Book available in local bookstores soon, the journey of JUBI Art Studio continues to unfold. The brand remains committed to its core mission: to inspire, uplift, and bring joy through art, one illustration at a time.
