The Heart of Sade’s Cuisine & Catering

In a quiet kitchen in Trinidad and Tobago, the aroma of seasoned meats, spices and fresh ingredients fills the air; not from a high-end restaurant, but from a humble home where Sade’s Cuisine & Catering was born. The year was 2020, a time when the world stood still. For many, the COVID-19 pandemic was a season of loss and uncertainty, and for one Trinidadian family, it marked the beginning of a new chapter rooted in courage, sacrifice and a love for good food.

Sade, the founder of this family-owned business, had just lost her job as a restaurant supervisor. With her husband as the sole breadwinner and a young child to care for, the future seemed uncertain. Yet, out of that uncertainty came a bold decision: to start a business with just $500, no professional kitchen and a dream bigger than her means. From their small kitchen, with little more than determination and a few family recipes, Sade and her husband set out to build something they could call their own.

Food, for Sade, is more than sustenance. It’s legacy. It’s the mark she wants to leave behind for her children and for the community that embraced her in her most vulnerable moment. She remembers her childhood vividly, growing up around food, watching her cousins run a popular BBQ shop, and making doubles by age ten. The Food Network was always on in the background and she drew inspiration from culinary icons like Guy Fieri, Barefoot Contessa, Rachael Ray and beloved local chef Natasha, better known as “Trini Cooking with Natasha.” Those influences didn’t just shape her palate; they stirred something deeper, a sense of peace and purpose that only came alive when she was in the kitchen.

From that first meal prepared during lockdown to now, Sade’s Cuisine & Catering has grown into a trusted name. The business has landed contracts with big brands, secured catering deals with both government and private sector clients and most recently collaborated with Spirit Mas for Carnival 2025, a milestone that still feels surreal. But beyond the accolades and partnerships, Sade takes pride in something far more profound: building a self-sustaining business that gives back. She has created opportunities, shared resources and poured into her community in ways she once only dreamed of. And all the while, her name and the values it stands for continue to travel further than she could have ever imagined.

Running a business while raising a child is no easy feat. Juggling the roles of mother, entrepreneur and chef has tested Sade’s resilience. But for her, giving up was never an option. She believes firmly that success lives just outside of comfort. It demands discomfort, discipline and the kind of consistency that makes you show up even when failure feels inevitable. “You would definitely fail a few times and lose a lot before things start looking up,” she says, “but never give up in what you believe in.”

She’s a strong believer that starting a business doesn’t require thousands of dollars, just the courage to start. A strong mind, a positive outlook and the willingness to fail forward are the real investments. For her, failure was not the end. It was a stepping stone, a necessary part of the journey to becoming a trusted brand.

At its core, Sade’s Cuisine & Catering is a business that understands the difference between operations and identity. The business, the day-to-day, the service, the workflow, is the engine. The brand, however, is its heartbeat. It’s the trust customers place in their name, the consistency they can count on and the satisfaction that keeps them coming back. That’s what Sade believes a brand truly is, a promise that expectations will not only be met but exceeded.

Despite the steady growth and notable achievements, Sade recognises the challenges that small local businesses face. Larger brands, with their deeper pockets and stronger connections, often dominate the spotlight, leaving small enterprises fighting to be seen. She believes there’s room for improvement in how local brands are supported, especially by the government and corporate giants. While some efforts have been made, she believes the potential to do more, to uplift and promote smaller players, is undeniable.

As for what’s next, Sade has her sights set on expanding into local markets and collaborating with fellow entrepreneurs. There’s an open-mindedness and hunger to keep growing, evolving and staying ready for whatever comes next. Sade’s Cuisine & Catering isn’t just about food. It’s about community, about grit, about a woman who dared to turn her kitchen into a brand that now stands tall, not just in her neighbourhood, but across sectors and clients who have come to rely on her signature flavour and unshakable integrity.

From a pandemic-born idea to a thriving business built on heart, heritage and hustle, Sade’s Cuisine & Catering is a reminder that greatness doesn’t always begin with a grand plan. Sometimes, it starts with $500, a handful of ingredients and an unwavering belief that something beautiful can grow from even the most uncertain beginnings.
