Brewing Culture and Connection: How Cosmo Tea & Tea Is Putting Trinidad and Tobago on the World’s Tea Map

Cosmo Tea & Tea Limited is more than just a specialty loose-leaf tea business, it’s a celebration of Trinidad and Tobago’s vibrant culture, a mission to reshape the Caribbean’s relationship with tea and a vision for sustainable and meaningful experiences. Founded in 2020 and based in Petit Valley, the brand has set its sights on making tea a mainstream beverage in the region while introducing the concept of tea tourism. The idea isn’t just about offering visitors a chance to experience the islands’ beauty but also about allowing them to engage with something familiar, namely tea, in a way that reflects the Caribbean’s unique cultural landscape.

At the core of Cosmo Tea & Tea’s philosophy is sustainability. Every aspect of the business, from ethically sourcing tea to operating with environmental and social impact in mind, reflects a commitment to fostering well-being and cultural appreciation while driving sustainable development. More than just a product, tea is seen as a catalyst for transformation, a way to nurture health, strengthen social bonds and create moments of stillness in an increasingly fast-paced world. The brand’s vision extends beyond selling tea; it’s about infusing daily life with happiness, optimism and integrity.

The name Cosmo Tea & Tea is deeply rooted in the essence of Trinidad and Tobago. The first part, “Cosmo,” reflects the nation’s diversity, a melting pot of cultures and ethnicities that coexist in harmony. Some may call it cosmopolitan, but for those who understand the island’s spirit, it’s simply the ‘Cosmo’ effect, a natural synergy of warmth and unity. The second part of the name, “Tea & Tea,” is a subtle yet intentional nod to the country’s initials, T&T. More than just a clever play on words, it symbolises the vibrancy, energy, and festivity that the brand seeks to encapsulate in every tea experience, whether through its carefully blended brews or its thoughtfully curated events.

While Cosmo Tea & Tea is still a growing venture, the founder dreams of the day it becomes a full-time pursuit. For now, the journey involves wearing multiple hats, playing the roles of Chairman, CFO, COO, Head of Marketing, Procurement, Quality Control, Customer Service, and even Cleaner, all in one. The balancing act is not without its challenges, and the most daunting aspect is managing risk while trusting one’s instincts to make the right decisions. Yet, there is something profoundly empowering about building a brand from the ground up, knowing that every challenge overcome is a step closer to realising a dream.

The inspiration for Cosmo Tea & Tea was born out of the pandemic, a time of uncertainty when tea became a source of comfort, stress relief, and creativity. What started as a personal refuge quickly grew into a shared experience among friends and family, revealing an untapped passion for quality tea in the Caribbean. That realisation sparked curiosity, leading to research and an undeniable observation: the region lacked high-quality tea options. Driven by a love for experiences, the founder saw an opportunity to merge tea with Trinidadian culture, creating something far more meaningful than just a beverage business. The goal was, and still is, to share the rich heritage of Trinidad and Tobago with the world through tea.

Since its inception, Cosmo Tea & Tea has already achieved several milestones. Simply taking the leap and starting the business was a major accomplishment, but the realisation that this journey had been years in the making made it even more significant. The company was incorporated in 2021, yet a glance back at old journals in 2024 revealed a long history of planning and dreaming. That was the moment of reckoning, the decision to stop procrastinating and take action. The first sale came on September 24, 2024, marking the beginning of something tangible.

Other key moments soon followed. In September 2024, Cosmo Tea & Tea’s founder was invited as the keynote speaker at the Intentional Living Workshop for Women, where she educated attendees on the fundamentals of tea and guided them in creating their own custom relaxation blends—an experience that blended education, empowerment, and wellness. October 2024 marked the launch of the first Christmas catalogue, offering thoughtfully curated tea gifts, alongside the debut of branded merchandise.

By January 2025, Cosmo Tea & Tea entered the retail space, laying the groundwork for deeper customer engagement. In May 2025, the brand made its first public appearance at the TTMA Mother’s Day Pop-Up, hosted at the Centre of Excellence. It wasn’t just a sales booth—it was a vibrant introduction to the public, an opportunity to connect with curious passersby, fellow entrepreneurs, and new tea lovers.

June 2025 brought another wave of milestones. Cosmo Tea & Tea proudly served as the official tea partner for the Go Red High Tea and Fashion Show, catering to over 500 guests. It was here the brand launched its signature blend, HER Heart, a carefully crafted tea in support of women’s wellness and heart health. That same month also saw the introduction of the Gifting Tier, designed to give customers more value when buying tea in bulk for events or personal celebrations. The brand also rolled out personalisation and co-branding services, allowing customers and corporate clients to create more meaningful, tailored tea experiences.

Several additional events are already on the calendar for the year ahead, all part of Cosmo Tea & Tea’s ongoing mission to become more visible, accessible, and integrated into the cultural fabric of the Caribbean. On the horizon is a planned meet-and-greet, an immersive in-person experience where tea lovers can sample blends, meet the founder, and enjoy a space filled with warmth, connection, and shared appreciation for all things tea.

The entrepreneurial journey has been filled with lessons, each one encapsulated in what the founder calls the P’s of Entrepreneurship: Procrastination, Perfectionism, Perseverance, Patience, Profit, Planet, People, Prophecy, Praise, Progress, Purpose, Proficiency, and Pride. Some serve as obstacles to overcome, while others become guiding principles that shape the path forward.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, the advice is simple yet profound: just start. It’s a cliché, but it holds undeniable truth, perfection will never come and there will always be hurdles, but waiting only delays the inevitable. The second crucial piece of advice is to seek mentorship. Learning from those who have already navigated the path can be invaluable, and investing in guidance, even when it comes at a cost, is an investment in future success.

At its core, Cosmo Tea & Tea understands the power of branding. A brand is an asset, an intangible yet invaluable entity that shapes perceptions and influences experiences. It extends beyond mere business transactions, becoming a lasting impression that remains even when the business owner is not in the room. A business may be something measurable, something that can eventually be liquidated, but a brand has the power to live on. However, if a brand fades, the business is often not far behind.

In the local landscape of Trinidad and Tobago, there is immense potential, but it remains largely untapped. Some of the best brands are still hidden gems, overshadowed by those with the means to dominate advertising spaces. Unfortunately, much of the marketing in the region often feels like a checkbox exercise rather than genuine storytelling. Meanwhile, many truly authentic brands remain too modest, hesitant to step into the spotlight. The talent exists, but the challenge lies in being bold enough to claim space and make an impact.

With every event, sale, and story shared, Cosmo Tea & Tea is steadily carving out its place as a brand rooted in purpose and culture. It’s a brand that invites the world to slow down, sip intentionally, and experience the spirit of Trinidad and Tobago through thoughtful, immersive tea moments.
