There are certain things you quietly stop doing when life changes. For me, one of them was brewing coffee at home.
When I lived in London, coffee was a whole experience. I invested in machines, accessories, proper coffee and all the little details that made it feel special. Coffee was never simply caffeine to me. It was atmosphere. Comfort. The smell of something warm brewing on a grey morning before the city woke up. It was a pause before the rush.
Then I moved back to Trinidad and Tobago and left it all behind.
Starting over felt daunting in many ways and somewhere in all of that, my coffee machine life quietly disappeared. I adapted. I relied on a French press, good local cafés and, yes, fed my addiction to Starbucks because thankfully, here we have no shortage of good coffee.
And then life changed again.
Over the last year, my health forced me to slow down in ways I never expected. There were bigger things to focus on than coffee machines or beautiful mugs or creating moments for yourself.
But lately, especially with my recent birthday, this new chapter is unfolding in a new home and I’ve found myself wanting to return to some of the things that once brought me joy.
Small things.
The things that quietly shape how life feels.
So when I saw the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Coffee Maker, I was curious. And I took it home with me.
And now? I completely understand the appeal.

The first thing I noticed was the smell.
There is something deeply comforting about your entire house slowly filling with the smell of freshly brewed coffee again. Suddenly the kitchen feels warmer. Softer. More lived in. It shifts the atmosphere completely and somehow makes home feel more like home.
And because I’m me, naturally I timed how quickly I could get coffee.
Two to three minutes. Piping hot. No drama. As somebody juggling TTChatterbox, running an advertising agency, always deep in late night strategy work, motherhood, being a wife and approximately fourteen other things at once, that speed matters when it comes to my coffee.
What I love most about the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew is that it works for how I actually live.I love ground coffee.Proper coffee. Brewing it myself. And with this machine I can do ground coffee and K-Cups.
For me, previous machines that only did pods always felt limiting. I never really got into K-Cups because I didn’t want to lose the option of brewing fresh coffee the way I enjoy it.
This machine gives me both. On days when I want to take my time, I can brew my own ground coffee.
On busier mornings, when life is moving quickly and I simply need coffee now, the K-Cup option is there waiting.
And honestly? This is where things get exciting for me.

I’ve never actually owned a K-Cup machine before, so this feels like a completely new chapter in my coffee journey.
I’ve already started spotting so many brands available locally and suddenly I feel oddly excited about the possibilities. Lavazza. Starbucks. Café Bustelo. Krispy Kreme. Dunkin’.
There is this whole world of coffee to explore that I never really paid attention to before and I love that this machine gives me the freedom to try both.
Another thing I appreciate is how compact it is.
My kitchen may be beautiful but counter space still matters and the FlexBrew fits in without taking over. It feels practical rather than bulky, which is important for everyday living.
It is also refreshingly easy to clean.
The brewing and pod attachments rinse out easily in the sink after each use, which means the machine feels low-maintenance rather than another complicated appliance demanding attention.
And then there’s the cost.
At TT$695, I genuinely think it offers value.
When I think about how easily a coffee run can cost me TT$65, the maths starts making sense very quickly. That is about ten café coffees and suddenly, I have beautiful coffee at home whenever I want it.
For me, though, this isn’t only about coffee.

It is about bringing something back into my life that I genuinely missed. It is about creating a space that feels good to live in again. A space that smells like coffee in the morning. A space that supports the life I’m building.
And if this is how my next chapter begins?
I’ll happily take it.
