Meet The Beauty Parlour. A full service spa located in the heart of Woodbrook, Port of Spain. Owner Kavita Boodram says “Our goal is to provide the ultimate experience in a place where beauty, comfort, knowledge and personalized attention combine to offer both value and service.” The Beauty Parlour is a premier source for custom manicures & pedicures. “We also offer Brow Services, Sauna & Body Treatments, Massage, Facial, Vajacial, Full body Waxing, Lashes and Hair services.”
When it comes to the name, Kavita chose The Beauty Parlour as she felt it encapsulated the essence of her business. “Beauty – to provide services that make women feel like the best versions of themselves. Parlour – evoked an inviting warmth as it reflects a place that people gather to sit and relax. Our clients are like an extended family to us and so we wanted people to feel like they were visiting an old friend when they stepped through our doors.”
The Beauty Parlour is full time for Kavita who started her journey by completing a Manicure/Pedicure course at Madame Maharaj School of Cosmetology with the intention of making a couple extra dollars over the weekend. “I always loved it and so with an amazing support system decided to give it my all.”
Kavita was inspired to start the business by her mother. “As a child I grew up watching my mother cook Sunday lunch, ensure the family was fed and then she would proceed to polish her nails. That was her ‘me- time.’ It was a ritual I fell in love with and eventually I learned the art of polishing. It was great fun to choose out colours and I would readily volunteer my services to several other family members. It never occurred to me to convert this passion into a paycheck so to speak.” After working in accounting for five years, a very close friend suggested Kavita take a course in nails as it was something that was clear to everyone that she loved. “From there everything just fell into place. I loved it and knew that this is what I was meant to do. The demand for other services and my eagerness to learn new things paved the way for the full service Parlour that we are today.”
When it comes to milestones, Kavita has certainly experienced many along the way. “When I hit my first year as a business owner, it really made me feel like what I was doing had a great chance of success. It made me realize I wanted to feel this way every year going forward. I have always been a believer in support local so after the unprecedented effects of Covid 19, I decided to action something that was important to me. We collaborated with a local vendor to create Signature Lines of Salts, Scrubs, Masks and Lotions – a full Manicure and Pedicure line. The products were created with a purpose, to be both therapeutic and beneficial to the skin. Handcrafted locally, the products are 100% natural, organic, free of silicone, parabens and cruelty-free.”
As an entrepreneur, Kavita has also learned lessons on her journey. “I’ve learn’t that failure is ok. I have always used this as an opportunity to fuel growth which has led to the business expanding and achieving success in many areas.” And does she have any advice for budding entrepreneurs out there? Yes she does. “Entrepreneurship is no easy feat. It takes a lot of courage, passion and skill to build a business from the ground up. Challenge yourself and keep learning. Manage your energy not time. Know your customer and always deliver. Lastly celebrate all your wins, big and small.” Great advice Kavita!

For children 12 and under, specially customized fizzy bombs shaped as mermaids have been incorporated in our Mermazing Escape Package which delights the little ones.
