Meet True Dry Cleaning and Laundry. A brand that was founded with the intent of providing an innovative approach to the way that dry cleaning and laundry services are rendered in Trinidad and Tobago with a great emphasis placed on the use of technology. True offers wash and fold, dry cleaning as well as pick and delivery services. With pick up and delivery offered six days a week, True’s services are priced comparably to other cleaners and they hold themselves accountable to the highest standards.

True is owned by Jelani Corbie and Dante Gains who are both students and long time friends. When it comes to the name of the business they wanted a name that expressed what they were trying to create with their brand.  “There is a lot of ‘pretend’ in this world especially in the business sector. We wanted a name that reflected exactly the type of service we aim to provide; Something that is honest, something that is TRUE.”

And what inspired the duo to start the business? “We always wanted to do a business together. We have had many ideas over the years about doing something different. One day we were out having coffee and I had read an article about the dangers of dry cleaning and the effects it has on the environment. Coincidentally, I had laundry to pick up that same day, and had to wait 30 minutes in traffic to collect my garments. Additionally, the service was subpar and I felt as though something was missing from this experience. It was at that moment we knew what had to be done. We always wanted to redefine the ways business is done in Trinidad and Tobago placing heavy emphasis on technology, convenience and customer service.”

Along their journey, the duo have learned many lessons and they shared that “Business is not easy but by striving you shall conquer.” As for advice for the budding entrepreneur, “Do not give up on your dream. If you need to downsize your dream to start, do so. You will grow and your vision will come ‘true’.”

True offers free pick up and delivery and you can book a pick up in many different ways. You can use one of the many digital channels under the True umbrella including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, True’s online booking tool via their website and soon there will be a mobile app. “We send sms and email notifications for the different stages of your cleaning. You can also track your driver in real time. We also use dry cleaning and laundry detergents that are biodegradable and hypoallergenic. Dry cleaning can be dirty but we make it clean, by using wet cleaning that eliminates the uses of chemicals such as PERC that are very harmful to the environment.”
