Amid the global crisis of the 2020 pandemic, Trinidad & Tobago, like all Latin American countries, faced the daunting challenge of COVID-19. In response to the quarantine measures, businesses, both large and small, were forced to adapt or close their doors, leaving many unemployed, including Angy Contreras and her colleague, Rosbelly Reyes, who worked at a restaurant.

Facing uncertainty, Contreras and Reyes leveraged their experience in the sushi industry from Venezuela to conceive a new business idea: preparing and delivering Japanese cuisine to homes. Thus, SUSHI MY FRIEND was born.
Through strategic use of social media and delivery services, they gradually expanded their customer base, starting with WhatsApp orders among friends and later branching out to other platforms. Despite encountering hurdles along the way, their dedication and adaptability propelled SUSHI MY FRIEND to prominence in Trinidad & Tobago’s culinary scene.

For Contreras and Reyes, SUSHI MY FRIEND represents more than just a business venture—it symbolizes resilience and community. As they continue to serve their growing clientele, they remain committed to delivering exceptional service and fostering a sense of connection with their patrons.
In the aftermath of the pandemic, SUSHI MY FRIEND stands as a testament to the human capacity for innovation and perseverance in the face of adversity.
